X-Cel Adds a Custom Soft Lens Design for Irregular Corneas

X-Cel Contacts is excited to announce the addition of the Flexlens ARC (Atypical Refractive Correction) custom soft lens to their noteworthy toolbox of irregular cornea designs. This lens will be manufactured at X-Cel’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Duluth, Georgia, allowing for quick turnaround time, superior quality and consistent reproducibility. The Flexlens ARC is a custom soft lens design that fits like a regular toric contact lens. With no need to worry about peripheral curves or any other parameter that may complicate the fit, the Flexlens ARC is easy to fit, thus reducing chair time. This lens utilizes a standard back surface fitting curve, precise axis, cylinder, and an enhanced center thickness to stabilize the correction over an aberrated cornea. The Flexlens ARC is indicated for the correction of various ocular conditions including; keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, corneal transplants, post refractive surgery and/or any irregular cornea conditions. Are You Paying Attention to One of the Most Important Pages on Your Website?

Are You Paying Attention to One of the Most Important Pages on Your Website?

We all know that the most visited page on any practice website is the Home Page and how important it is to your web presence. And, of course, the second most viewed page is the Hours and Location page … most visitors need that information! But, what’s the third most popular page on a practice’s website? It’s the ‘Doctors’ page. If you’re an existing patient, your eye doctor’s bio and qualifications make not be so interesting to you, but for a potential patient, this is often the place you look to make a final decision about booking an appointment. Unlike a traditional doctor’s office, the optometry practice dangles somewhere between “medical” and “commercial” meaning your branding requires attention to medical qualifications and chair-side manner as well as great prices and quality retail if you sell optical, contacts or elective treatments. Potential patients want to know about the qualifications of the optometrists who run the practice even if they are only coming to buy a new pair of glasses. They want to know not only about your professional qualifications and expertise, but also about the kind of person you are, how you engage...

Optometrist Perspective by Harvey Yamamoto, OD

Optometrist Perspective by Harvey Yamamoto, OD

At the beginning of 2012, I told my staff and friends that this was going to be a special year for us.  Last year, I had let it slip that my 50th year since I graduated had slip by unnoticed thus I promised myself that I would do something special during 2012 as some sort of private celebration. I had thought that it was time to do a “makeover” of my practice. I began by retiling the front entrance to our waiting room.  That is when an article by Dr. Gerber appeared:  “You cannot afford Not to do it.”  His first two points rang loudly in my ear.  Point #1: He stated that we should move our location.  Since we own our own building that made point #1 moot.  Point #2 stated that we should remodel.   Now that made a lot of sense.   My retired dentist noticed the change of the new tiling in our office and he remarked, “While attending CE lectures, they are told to do something to their practice every 5 years. “  He remarked on how nice the new tiles had made our practice look.   That was very inspiring and I wanted to do a bit more. I began to discuss my thoughts about remodeling.  One suggestion that I considered was wood flooring in the exam rooms.  My first...

Luxottica now has 110 eyewear/eyecare locations in New Zealand, the announcement said. Chris Beer, chief executive officer of Luxottica Asia Pacific, commented, “New Zealand is an important market for the group, and we are focused on growing our key retail brands here, both organically and through acquisition.” Describing the MySight Vision purchase as “an important step in our strategy to increase our budget offering to New Zealand,” Beer said nine of the 12 locations will take on Luxottica’s Budget Eyewear store name, while the other three will move under the company’s OPSM retail umbrella. ABB CONCISE’s Price Monitor Helps Practices Price Their Contact Lenses

ABB CONCISE’s Price Monitor Helps Practices Price Their Contact Lenses

Coral Springs, FL (September 30, 2010) — ABB CONCISE’s quarterly Contact Lens Price Monitor, now in its fifth year, has become the industry standard to help eye care practitioners understand the dynamics of pricing soft contact lenses using annual supply discounts. Every quarter ABB CONICSE surveys 200 randomly selected offices from its account base of over 15,000 to get average pricing of all major brands of soft contact lenses. With that information, it suggests prices for single-box, semi-annual supply and annual-supply of contact lenses. It also monitors the pricing of mass merchandisers and online merchants. “It’s nice to know what the competition is doing. We want to be able to tell our patients honestly that our prices are competitive with the alternatives,” said Mark Boas, O.D., Exton, PA. Mark Gendal, O.D., Coral Springs, FL, commented: “Pricing contact lenses is a complicated business. The practice purchases between $10,000 and $12,000 in contact lenses each month. Once prices were set, they tended to stay there.” Dr. Gendal found he often based his pricing on the low per-box prices he achieved through banks and other ABB CONCISE promotions. When he saw the average retail...
