Armani Group Will Not Renew The Eyewear License With Safilo

Padua, November 16, 2011 – Safilo Group has been informed by the Armani Group of their decision not to renew, beyond the natural expiration date of December 31, 2012, the license agreement for the design, production and distribution of the Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani and A/X Armani Exchange eyewear collections. Safilo’s sales through the Armani Group’s licenses were approximately Euro 165 million in 2010 and Euro 125 million in the first nine months of 2011. In light of the non-renewal and based on the current portfolio of brands, the Group’s medium-term financial targets, communicated on September 29, would be lower by approximately Euro 150-200 million at the net sale level in 2015, while the EBITDA margin would reach 13.5% instead of 15%. However, Safilo is confident that it can achieve its medium-term business and economic targets through further developing its current portfolio of brands, new Safilo own brands and future additional licensing agreements. Padua, August 2, 2011 – The Board of Directors of SAFILO GROUP S.p.A. today reviewed and approved the results of the second quarter and first half of 2011. In the second quarter of 2011, the Group reported an acceleration in the underlying growth trends, delivering a double-digit organic sales increase and solid improvement of margins. Specifically, in the period: • Revenues grew by 10.5% at constant perimeter1 and exchange rates, with the quarterly trends driven by the upbeat growth of the main fast-growing Asian and Latin American countries, the sound trading conditions of the US market and better performance of Europe; • EBITDA and EBIT rose by 30.9% and 48.3% respectively, benefitting of the higher gross margin and the continuing deleverage of SG&A expenses both in the core wholesale business as well as at retail stores level. Below the operating line, lower financial expenses and tax rate also contributed to the consistent improvement of the Group’s net result; • Net Debt declined both compared to the end of the previous quarter and the end of June 2010 thanks to the improved profitability of the period and the tight control on working capital management. On 23rd June the Frames of Your Life traveling street initiative reached a successful climax amidst the prestigious surrounds of the Palais Royal in Paris. Launched at the end of 2010, the project has taken famous fashion bloggers and trendsetters – Micol Sabbadini, Tommy Ton and Yvan Rodic amongst them – on a meandering tour to the four corners of the globe, photographing everyday people on the streets of the world’s major cities. Real faces that, just for a moment, have become interpreters of Giorgio Armani style. A selection of these images has formed the inspiration behind the new Giorgio Armani Eyewear 2011/12 advertising campaign.  In an innovative role reversal, the best shots taken during the tour have themselves become the campaign images. For once the message has changed, with the faces of everyday people taking the place of conventional images. Each campaign image is a composition of different snapshots, the faces are different as are the photographers themselves.
