A bold Essential frame from ProDesign, with an optimistic, sporty look. This collection is an intentional contrast to the classic sharp design of the Essential line. The designer has played with colors and material and the brushed temples give a high performance feel and are great to touch and wear. The color scheme is very playful which gives a dynamic expression and a beautiful flow between the front and the temples. The collection has the characteristic handmade line all along the edge of the front, which is a special ProDesign trade. This cool, little detail is emphasized by the fact that the fronts are cut off at the hinges instead of bending around the corner to meet the temple. The frames are an fantastic mix between two materials. The firmness of the raw titanium combined with the skin-friendly, flexible and soft rubber acetate of the end-tips. Slender shapes in refreshing two-tone colors The shapes of this collection are exquisite. You’ll still see the influence of the strong retro-wave, but this collection has gone in a much lighter direction, abandoning the very heavy look of the usual retro collections. The lightness of the frames fit very well with the natural lines of the face, creating a harmony between the frame and the face. The colors that the designer has chosen are subtle and soft with gradients ranging from dark to very light in the same color scheme, supporting the color schemes also found in the face. The exclusive color gradients of this collection are very hard to obtain, and are best achieved through a difficult process of coloring the frames by hand, one at a time. Simply retro! The retro-wave continues strongly into the fall/winter season of 2012. Where the retro frames used to be very chunky, with thick, heavy temples, ProDesign have created a light and more sophisticated collection, still with that unmistakable feel of the 60’s and 70’s, but twisted in a direction towards the more simple and “intelligent” look. We’ve kept the front colors very subtle and quite masculine; some of the frames are made from 3 layers, choosing a thicker layer in the middle for a layer of more intense color. This breaks with the classic retro look as well as the conventional way of layering acetate, giving the collection that little unexpected twist that makes it stand apart from the rest. Graphical feminism! Usually the Iris frames are ultra-feminine, with flowers and gems. But is doesn’t necessarily have to be that way to be feminine! This Iris collection focuses on the mix of materials and the subtle play on colors. The temples are created from an Italian acetate material that is unique for ProDesign. The stripes in the acetate are created specifically to mimic the rhythm of the design of the temples. All the temples are grey on the inside, but most of them have their own exterior layer, to give them a subtle pop of color. A swiveling hinge! This slim Axiom collection is inspired by the award winning hinge functionality of the Zense collection 7342-45. But this time we’ve turned the hinge inside out! The Axiom frames are all about no-nonsense simplified funtionality, so whereas in the Zense collection, the hinge was cleverly hidden, it’s now here fort he world to see! The little screw that makes up the hinge, is actually a combined hinge and rim lock functionality! To avoid any breakage due to the swivel mechanism, the hinge has a click-function that indicates, when you can’t swivel the hinge any further. This collection was inspired by the desire to create a high fashion, contemporary line of frames for the urbane, design-oriented man and woman. Even though the shapes are obviously inspired by the past – you’ll find the classic panto, the Jackie O-shape and the curvy butterfly shape, the collection remains fresh and relevant, because of the colors and the way the acetates layers are combined. Powerful pantented performance! The Axiom collection is all about simplified functionality and this new addition to the successful fifth branch under the ProDesign name is no exception! The special clip is a patented hinge functionality, that allows the temple tob e removed easily from the rest oft he frame – simply by pressing down lightly on the clip! Art in layers! The art of making an acetate frame, can seem to easy at times. Behind this special collection lies hours of perfecting the pressing and cutting process. To obtain the 3D effect of the transition between the temple and the front, the acetate material must be cut very precisely so when you bend it, the upperside will still look smooth. The temple itself is a study in cutting and assembling the acetate layers correctly – best seen in the transparent acetate layer which is added last, but is still a seamless part of the entire temple. Metal frames with volume and color: A new challenge! Often our designers want to challenge themselves as well as the material they work with. How can you take a flat sheet of metal and give it volume and make it interesting without making it clumsy or bulky? The solution was to make a number of „steps“ in the temples which creates depth in combination with the beautiful colors. Usually when our designers work with metal, they have used two, maybe three colors, and in this collection they have used no less than five colors! This was possible due to the structure of the pattern on the temples. The frames are first painted in the basic color and then each step is colored by hand. This is a slow and very accurate task. The colors are mostly classic autumn tones and some more lively colors for those who wish to make a statement. Mixed materials and textures The designer‘s love for aluminum materials and colors inspired this lively collection, that combines acetate, titanium and aluminum. The beautiful colors we have achieved with the aluminum fronts, really makes these frames stand out. The bold block hinge creates the perfect connection between the fronts and the acetate temples without disrupting the flow of the matching colors. The different textures of the aluminum and the acetate brings a certain dynamic to these Zense frames. On the temples, the colors are strongest on the inside, with just a drop on the outside, achieved by milling away a small part oft he upper layer of acetate. Other small details that you notice are the integrated rim lock, that is special for ProDesign, and the titanium nosepads that ensures a allergy-friendly frame. A clean look, with a few feminine details! A smooth and even frame, with striking details such as the feminine drops shape on the temple and the beautiful lines in the material. In keeping with the rest of the Iris collection, these frames are very feminine, but the classic shapes take them in a more unisex direction, creating a modern and classic look. The acetate material itself has a lot of effects, when you take a closer look. The inside of the frames reveal a pearl material, mixed from different tones of pearly acetate. The lines on the frames were created by milling down to the second layer. This delicate and time-consuming process was done after the frames were cut and assembled! Three shapes, in four colors each. Many effects from just one material! One sheet of layered acetate creates this multi-colored frame – it is the way it is cut, that makes all the difference! The frames have a different look depending on how you look at them. The differences are best seen on the temples, where one layer of the sheet is milled away to reveal the vibrant end tip color. And in the cut out section of the temples, the acetate is milled away completely. Instead sits a colorful metal wire core, which is fully visible on the inside of the frame, due to the choice of the transparent acetate that covers it. The overall look of the collection has a very high performance feel to it, and the color combinations are mixed in powerful contrasts, that take the frames to the limit, where they are exciting but never extreme!
